Marion County deputy killed in motorcycle crash

MARION COUNTY, Indianapolis – Police dispatchers in
Johnson County said Sunday night that a medical
helicopter was called to the scene of a motorcycle
crash in Marion County.

Authorities later confirmed
it was a fatal crash that involved a Marion County
Sheriff's Office deputy.

Initial reports were that the crash happened at
County Road 1050 North and County Road 700
East in Johnson County.

Dispatchers there later said
the crash was just over the Marion County line.

Indiana State Police Captain Dave Bursten says the
crash happened in the 8900 block of Acton Road.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office sent out a release
saying that Marion County Sheriff's Deputy Eric
Stofer, 35, was killed in the crash around 8 p.m.

No
other vehicles were involved.

Officials say Stofer was an inmate transportation
deputy in the jail division of the MCSO.

He had been
with the Sheriff's Office since 2003. Indiana State Police are investigating the crash.
