IMPD says a car fleeing the scene of a shooting
struck a school bus near 52nd and Carvel on the
Indianapolis northeast side.
Seven students had
minor in juries.
Police say the driver reported that someone opened fire on the car in the area of 46th and
Winthrop.
"A 16-year-old girl was driving alone in car. She
claims someone started firing from the car behind
her. She sped up, spun out of control and struck
the bus on the right side," said Lt. Terry Eden.
The driver had a leg injury due to the impact from
the crash. She was also taken to the hospital.
Police said they found shell casings at 46th and
Winthrop.
The school bus, IPS 9171 operating by Durham
Services, was not fired upon. The bus was transporting students home from Shortridge High
School.
Seven students on the bus were transported to the hospital to be checked out.
