Fifa set to ban Nigeria

African champions Nigeria risk an international ban, in negligence of the world football governing FIFA rule, which states that, no government officials must interfere with its sporting activities.

Nigerian sports minister Tammy Danagogo, Thursday, July 3, sacked the head of the Nigerian
Football Federation (NFF), Aminu Maigari and opted to appoint Lawrence Katiken as the new sole administrator of the NFF.

This act was triggered by the failure of the Super Eagles team to progress past the round of 16, after suffering defeat to France.
It could be recalled that, Nigeria narrowly escaped a similar ban in 2010, after the soccer team crashed out of the World Cup at the group stages.

President, Goodluck Jonathan had made a move to withdraw the country from all international
competition for two years, but later rescinded his decision, after which Nigeria was pardoned.

The sack of Aminu Maigari and his executive committees, with a court injunction represents direct interference by government in football, which has in the past incurred worldwide ban handed
down by FIFA If the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) were to place this ban on Nigerian football, it will take effect from the men
national team to the female national team, and the developmental football also, which is where Nigeria's pride reside, having won four U-17 championship in the past.
