who grew up idolizing Jay Z wishes they were around to receive.
However, the man who created
the logo for the coveted chain claims to not have
received all that he is owed for the logo design.
For
that, Jay Z is being sued by the logo's designer for
seven million dollars.
Dwayne Walker initially filed the lawsuit in July of 2012, but we're hearing about it now because
Walker claims Jay and his legal team are stalling by
complicating the legal proceedings.
The lawsuit
was filed because Dwayne Walker, a former
business associate of the Roc Nation leader, says
Jay owes him seven million dollars for creating the Roc-A-Fella logo in 1995.
Why does Jay Z owe Dwayne Walker that much
money for making a logo more than 19 years ago?
Well, Walker's attorney alleges that when Walker
met with Jay Z, Dame Dash, and Kareem "Biggs" Burke all those years ago, they all agreed that Walker would be paid $3,500 for the design of the
Roc-A-Fella logo.
However, Dwayne Walker
stipulated in the agreement that he be
compensated with two percent of future royalties
for ten years after the first year of use.
Walker, who
still owns the copyrights to the logo, received the $ 3,500, but the royalties have never come.
The illustrator says they have been in litigation for
nearly two years because of Jay Z's unprofessional
conduct.
He accuses the music mogul of attempting
to "mislead, harass, and needlessly increase the cost of litigation."
Also, they claim Jay Z is "unwilling
to cooperate in producing a joint report" and that
the rapper "refuses to discuss the possibility of
promptly setting or resolving the case."
Jay Z's legal team responded to Dwayne Walker's
recent allegations saying that "they have considered Walker's prior settlement offer" but feel
"there is NOT a possibility for promptly settling or
resolving the case."
Jay Z spit a line on Kanye West's song called "So
Appalled" where he said, "I lost thirty mill so I spent
another 30 cuz unlike Hammer 30 mill can't hurt
me."
If that's the case, what's seven million dollars,
right?
